A Tale of Friendship and Thrills

The Adventures of Aaron G. Beebe and Dave Lee Baxter: A Tale of Friendship and Thrills

By Aaron G. Beebe

In the heart of California, where the Sierra Nevada kisses the clouds, a friendship was born that would fuel countless adventures. I’m Aaron G. Beebe, founder of GonnaHappen, and I’ve shared some of my most exhilarating experiences with my friend, Dave Lee Baxter. Dave isn’t just any friend; he’s a climber, boulderer, jazz enthusiast, extreme sports lover, and a UPS driver with a zest for life that’s as boundless as the mountains we’ve explored together.

The Beginning of a Lifelong Friendship

Our friendship started humbly but quickly grew into something extraordinary. Dave’s fearless spirit and boundless energy brought out the adventurer in me. Together, we traveled across Tahoe and Bishop, where Dave would scale cliffs and tackle boulders while I watched in awe, documenting our memories on camera. Each adventure was a masterclass in the beauty of the outdoors and a testament to our bond.

Concerts, Hot Springs, and Iconic Encounters

Beyond our mountain expeditions, our shared love of music led us to concert after concert, dancing to the sounds of Karl Denson and George Clinton. We even partied with punk legends like Agent Orange and mingled with pro snowboarders like Kevin Jones in Mammoth. But our adventures didn’t end when the music stopped; we often found ourselves in hidden hot springs, connecting with Native American artists and collaborating on creative projects that celebrated indigenous culture.

Meeting Dave Hatchett, Tahoe’s Bouldering Icon

One of the highlights of our journey was meeting Dave Hatchett, a renowned bouldering guide and video expert in Lake Tahoe. Hatchett’s projects for Snowboard Magazine and Fuel TV had already made him a legend, and he soon became a friend and mentor to Dave. Hatchett even featured Dave in his local Tahoe guidebooks, cementing our stories in print.

Hawaiian Escapades

Our adventures took us to Hawaii, where we found ourselves jumping off cliffs, taking in the lush landscapes, and capturing unforgettable moments. “Super Dave,” as I began to call him, dazzled onlookers with daring backflips that left jaws dropping. But like any good adventure, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. We locked keys in the car, lost gear, and ended up hitchhiking in places even taxis avoided. But every mishap was just another memory, and laughter became our true north.

The Swim That Almost Wasn’t

One memorable adventure involved a daring swim that could have gone very wrong. Dave convinced me to swim toward some distant rocks, which turned out to be much farther than they looked. I wasn’t exactly in peak shape and ended up using a water bag as a float just to stay afloat. But we made it through, and that challenge became one of the reasons I decided to turn GonnaHappen into the platform it is today—an ode to experiences, resilience, and adventure.

The Great 4×4 Adventure at Mono Lake

One of our wildest moments was a 4×4 escapade at the 40-mile sand dunes near Mono Lake. Armed with nothing but a 2002 blue Highlander and high spirits, we charged into the dunes, only to get stuck in thick, powdery moon dust. Our shovel broke, so we improvised with kayak oars, battling for hours to free the car. After a lot of laughter, sweating, and digging, Dave finally floored the gas, and the SUV lurched free—sending a wave of moon dust all over me. Ghostly and caked in dust, we laughed our way through the half-mile back to town.

Reflections Under the Stars

That night, camping out in an obsidian field, we reflected on the day’s events. The simple joys of the outdoors and the shared challenges grounded us, reminding us that resilience and friendship were at the heart of every adventure. The next day, we hiked 12,000 feet and capped off our achievement with a couple of cold beers. Our adventure ended in a hot spring, where we met some free-spirited companions. The rest is, as they say, history.

Lessons in Laughter and Resilience

Our adventures are the kinds of memories you cherish forever. The stories I share with Dave are filled with laughter, lessons, and a good dose of humility—like the time he locked the keys in the car for the fifteenth time. When AAA arrived after a 75-mile journey, we discovered one door had been open all along. It’s moments like these that make our stories worth telling.

Under my leadership, GonnaHappen has blossomed, inspired by these adventures and dedicated to creating unforgettable experiences for others. Our journey is a tribute to the power of friendship, the thrill of adventure, and the beauty of living life with a little laughter and a lot of heart.

So stay tuned for more of our stories—because for us, life is all about living the good life, one wild escapade at a time.
