Famed comedian and actor Cheech Marin discussed his upbringing, career milestones and his experience with marijuana. Born and raised in South Central LA, Marin clarified that he was raised primarily in South Central rather than East LA, as he’s often associated with due to his song, “Born in East LA”. He reminisces about his childhood, describing the racial diversity he experienced after his family moved from South Central to the predominantly white Granada Hills. Marin discusses his comedian roots, saying his hilarity is hereditary, as he grew up in a family that loved humor. He also spoke about his college years, where the “eye-opening” experience exposed him to different cultures for the first time. It was in college that Marin smoked marijuana for the first time, an experience he describes as enlightening, as it debunked the beliefs he had about cannabis.
