Finding Common Ground with Sean P. McKenna

Written by AaronGBeebe

Every now and then, you meet someone in the industry who just gets it. Someone who shares your struggles, your frustrations, your drive, and—most importantly—your passion. For me, that person is Sean P. McKenna.

Sean and I were introduced by my publicist, Raquel Figlo, a powerhouse in the OC rock scene. When we connected, I quickly realized that Sean and I were cut from the same cloth. We’ve both been involved in entertainment for years, promoting and managing artists while telling great stories. But beyond that, we share something unique: we both took a step back from the industry, disillusioned by its challenges, only to return with a renewed purpose and a refined vision.

The Journey Back to Passion

Stepping away from something you love is never easy. Like Sean, I needed time away to reassess my path. For me, that break was about soul-searching and finding the strength to rebuild GonnaHappen—an idea I had once felt had failed. For Sean, it was about rediscovering his love for music and helping musicians navigate an industry that often undervalues their artistry.

Through his podcast, Rimshots with Sean, and his platform, Barstools and BandTalk, Sean has created a space where artists can truly take charge of their careers. He understands that many musicians just want to create and perform—business and media are often afterthoughts. Sean bridges that gap, helping artists gain the exposure and support they need to thrive. That’s something I admire deeply because, in many ways, I’m doing the same thing with GonnaHappen.

My Time on Barstools and BandTalk

Appearing on Sean’s show was an incredible experience. It had been a long time since I had been in front of a camera for an interview, but Sean made me feel completely at home. He has a natural way of bringing out the best in people, making conversations flow effortlessly. What struck me most was his genuine enthusiasm for what he does. Sean isn’t just running a podcast; he’s creating a movement. He’s using his platform to lift up musicians, share their stories, and give them the spotlight they deserve. That level of passion and dedication is rare—and it’s something that resonated deeply with me.

Why Sean’s Work Matters

In addition to hosting Rimshots with Sean, Sean is also a drummer, session musician, and live event promoter. His reach in the industry is broad, and his impact is undeniable. Whether he’s behind a drum kit or behind a microphone, he’s always working to support the artists he believes in. Sean’s ability to merge media, music, and business into a cohesive, artist-driven platform is something I respect immensely. It’s easy to see why so many musicians trust him with their stories and careers. He’s not in it for the fame—he’s in it for the love of music and the artists who create it.

A Shared Vision for the Future

Like Sean, I’ve returned to the industry with a renewed focus. I rebuilt GonnaHappen to give artists more control over their own careers. Unlike other platforms, mine is designed to empower creatives, giving them the tools they need to navigate the business side of entertainment without losing their passion. Sean’s work has been an inspiration to me in many ways. Seeing his dedication reminded me why I started GonnaHappen in the first place. And that’s why I highly recommend checking out Rimshots with Sean and Barstools and BandTalk. If you’re an artist looking for guidance, exposure, or just a great conversation about music, Sean is someone you want to know. And if you ever have the chance to be on his show—take it. He’ll make you feel right at home.
